West of Sooke, near the small community of Shirley, the Sheringham Point Lighthouse marks the southern coast of Vancouver Island.  The historic structure was originally built in 1912 to guide ships through the many storms that ravage the southern point of the island during the winter months.

Although the lighthouse and the surrounding area are fenced off, visitors can still get quite close to it. The Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society is currently working to create a park out of the lighthouse grounds.

The Canadian Coast Guard currently owns and manages the land.
